The Generation Forest concept is the result of our 25 years of experience in tropical forest investment management. After reforesting over nine thousand hectares we have conceptualized a reforestation model that combines the economical values of a timber plantation with the sustainability of a natural forest. It improves the plantation model by creating a profitable, lower risk, everlasting cash flow, multi-revenue streams and biodiverse forest.

The Generation Forest has a target Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of an average of 7.5% real, for Panama, with a lower risk profile through nature-like management and diversification of site adapted, mainly, native tree species. This model works well on low cost, non-agriculture soils. Global stakeholders have recognized The Generation Forest as an outstanding investment tool to stop climate change while generating market returns and lowering risks.

Founded in 2016, the cooperative, allows investors to invest smaller amounts in a Generation Forest at conditions similar to those only large investors get.

OUR HISTORY

From a small family retail forestry company to Latin America’s premier manager of tropical hardwoods, over almost 25 years, over 9000 ha reforested and over 4500 ha of private reserves created.

The Generation Forest (GF) model has a very important role to play in efforts to combine genuine income and forest conservation. The GF merges the native forest with the forest in regeneration and lines with plantations of native and exotic species. The density of trees with economic value makes the GF at the beginning very attractive for long term investors. The degree of intervention is compatible with the preservation of habitat for species of global significance. Its carbon content is also higher than the one of the secondary forests and could be above the one of primary forests. At the social level, it contributes to the generation of local employment since its maintenance requires labor. In my opinion, the biggest challenge is to be able to scale this model to large areas, and the shortage of professionals with knowledge of the management protocol will be a bottleneck to be addressed. In any case, this management model is very promising, and I hope it attracts attention from investors
